| Dr. Wolfgang Schwentker is Professor at the Centre for the Comparative Study of Civilizations. He studied history, literature and philosophy at the Universities of Düsseldorf and Bonn, Germany, and received his Dr.phil. in history at the University of Düsseldorf in 1986. His research subjects are Japanese history, Max Weber, and modern social and political thought. |

| Before being appointed at the Graduate School of Human Sciences at Osaka University in 2002, he was Senior Lecturer of Modern History at Düsseldorf University and a Visiting Scholar at Rikkyô University, Tôkyô, St Antony’s College, Oxford, and the University of Vienna. As a Visting Professor he taught Asian History and Modern Social Thought at Charles University Prague, Hagen Open University and other universities. In 2009-10 he was a Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Study, Constance University. |

| Wolfgang Schwentker is co-editor of the forthcoming “Neue Fischer Weltgeschichte” (Fischer’s New World History), Frankfurt, and the book series "Globalgeschichte und Entwicklungspolitik", Vienna.
